Presentation

Does the manuscript present a coherent, theoretically grounded, and educationally relevant argument? Are the ideas clearly, logically, and systematically organized?

Writing Quality

Does the title accurately represent the manuscript? Is the writing concise, precise, academically appropriate, grammatically correct, and easy to follow?

Length and Organization

Which parts of the manuscript should be expanded, removed, condensed, summarized, reorganized, or combined to improve clarity, methodological rigor, pedagogical relevance, and scholarly contribution?

Title

Is the title concise, informative, and representative of the study’s principal variables, participants, educational level, intervention, learning context, or main finding? Does it avoid unnecessary expressions, implicit terms, and unexplained abbreviations?

Abstract

Does the abstract clearly include:

  • The background and aim or purpose of the study;
  • The research design, participants, educational setting, intervention, instruments, and analytical techniques;
  • The principal results, including relevant statistical or qualitative findings where applicable; and
  • The main conclusion, contribution, and pedagogical implications?

Introduction

Does the introduction clearly describe:

  • The background and significance of the study in movement learning, motor development, physical education, sport pedagogy, or related educational fields;
  • The state of the art and relevant previous research;
  • The theoretical, empirical, methodological, or pedagogical research gap;
  • A clear statement of novelty or original contribution;
  • The learning theory, pedagogical model, motor-learning framework, or conceptual framework underpinning the study;
  • The research questions and/or hypotheses, where relevant;
  • The approach used to address the identified educational or scientific problem; and
  • The aim and specific objectives of the study?

Method

  • Is the research design described clearly enough to permit scientific evaluation and replication?
  • Does the section explain how the research was conducted rather than merely defining educational, pedagogical, or movement-related concepts?
  • Are the educational setting, participant characteristics, population, sample, sampling procedures, eligibility criteria, instruments, teaching materials, procedures, and analytical techniques clearly reported?
  • Are relevant participant characteristics such as age, sex, grade level, educational background, motor competence, physical condition, teaching experience, or learning needs reported where applicable?
  • For quantitative studies, are the variables, measurement instruments, validity, reliability, statistical techniques, effect sizes, confidence intervals, evaluation criteria, and validation procedures appropriately explained?
  • For experimental or instructional-intervention studies, are the learning model, lesson content, duration, frequency, instructional stages, teacher role, control or comparison conditions, implementation fidelity, and student participation clearly described?
  • For movement-learning studies, are the task design, practice structure, feedback, demonstration, learning environment, motor-skill assessment, retention test, transfer test, and performance indicators sufficiently reported?
  • For qualitative studies, are the participants, educational context, data-collection procedures, interview or observation protocols, coding techniques, credibility strategies, and researcher reflexivity clearly explained?
  • For mixed-methods studies, are the rationale, quantitative and qualitative components, integration procedures, and interpretation of combined findings clearly explained?
  • For systematic or scoping reviews, are the databases, search strategies, keywords, eligibility criteria, screening procedures, quality assessment, and evidence-synthesis methods transparently reported?
  • Are ethical approval, informed consent, parental or guardian consent, participant assent, confidentiality, participant safety, and institutional permission reported where applicable?

Results and Discussion

  • Are the results presented as systematically processed and analyzed data?
  • Are tables and figures relevant, readable, correctly numbered, and supported by clear titles, captions, units of measurement, and explanations?
  • Are descriptive statistics, statistical tests, effect sizes, confidence intervals, learning outcomes, observational findings, or qualitative themes reported accurately and completely?
  • Do the results directly address the research questions, hypotheses, or objectives stated in the Introduction?
  • Are the findings interpreted scientifically and pedagogically rather than merely restated?
  • Are the findings critically compared with relevant studies in movement learning, motor development, physical education, sport pedagogy, teacher education, or related fields?
  • Does the discussion explain agreements, differences, unexpected findings, and possible motor, cognitive, social, motivational, developmental, pedagogical, or contextual mechanisms?
  • Does the manuscript explain its theoretical, methodological, pedagogical, curricular, instructional, professional, or policy implications where relevant?
  • Does the study demonstrate how its findings can inform movement instruction, physical education teaching, motor-skill development, curriculum design, assessment, teacher education, or inclusive learning?
  • Are the study limitations and potential threats to internal, external, construct, ecological, or statistical validity acknowledged clearly?
  • Are meaningful directions for future research, educational practice, or curriculum development provided?

Conclusion

Does the conclusion:

  • Directly answer the research objectives, questions, or hypotheses;
  • Synthesize the principal findings without merely repeating the Results section;
  • State the study’s scientific, educational, and pedagogical contributions;
  • Provide realistic recommendations for teachers, students, coaches, teacher educators, curriculum developers, institutions, or policymakers where appropriate;
  • Avoid making claims that extend beyond the research design, participants, educational context, or available evidence; and
  • Appear as a coherent paragraph rather than bullet points or numbering?

Scope Fit and Contribution to JMLPEP

Does the manuscript clearly align with the scope of the Journal of Movement Learning and Physical Education Pedagogy (JMLPEP)? The journal welcomes original research, review articles, conceptual studies, and applied studies concerning movement learning, motor learning, motor development, motor competence, physical literacy, physical education, sport pedagogy, instructional models, curriculum development, teaching strategies, assessment, and technology-supported learning.

The journal also welcomes research concerning teacher education, professional development, inclusive and adaptive physical education, student motivation and engagement, play-based learning, traditional games, outdoor education, health education, physical activity promotion, classroom and behavior management, sociocultural issues, and educational policy related to movement and physical education.

Does the manuscript provide a clear theoretical, empirical, methodological, or pedagogical contribution relevant to JMLPEP’s readership? Does it explain how the findings can improve movement learning, motor-skill acquisition, physical education instruction, student engagement, assessment practices, curriculum implementation, teacher competence, inclusive education, or educational outcomes?
